Senior National Track Champs

After a hard winter’s training in preparation, my first major race of the season had arrived – the Points race at the Senior National Track Championships.

With sign on closing at 8:30, it meant almost a 5am start to the day and a long wait until qualification.

The bike was set and gear selected, it was all about qualification.

I ended up in qualification heat 2, one of the faster heats and the race was fast from the start. I came through, pulled turns and even was off the front for a lap, but had selected the wrong gear so kept spinning out in the sprints and was unfortunately lapped with 2 laps to go, removing any chance of qualifying.

Lots of lessons learnt and a great experience despite this.

Hatherleigh DNS

Soon after Senior Track Nats the first round of the Junior National Series in Hatherleigh was fast approaching. Despite spending my winter focused on the track I had recced the full race distance in the run up. I was excited for my first road race and was ready to give it my best shot. Unfortunately, the day before I was due to start, I injured my knee and was forced to DNS.
